MY FIRST CLASS

TITLE: Text translation

TOPICS: English language

AGE: 4th grade high school

GOAL: The main goal of this problem is students to learn more about their second school language – English. There are many phrases, two-meaning words which aren’t very easy to learn, remember, use and the hardest thing to translate it on appropriate way. The translation has to have completely meaning, and it mustn’t be literary, because on that way will seem ridiculous.

AUTHENTIC PROBLEM: The director of the high school received 15 letters which were written on English. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have anybody to do the translation, so he needs huge help because after the translation the letters will be sending to other directors. Students are required to do the translation in order to help him. This project is given to the students of 4th grade, because they are older and their studying is almost over. But also they have to practice their translating skills.

DESCRIPTION: Every regular class in our school lasts 40 min. My class has 30 students. At first I will make small groups of 2 students and each group will have to translate one letter. Then I will represent the task. The letters will be shown on projector, and will start to read them together. After reading one letter we will together explain some words. I won’t bring dictionaries because everything will be done on computer, so there are online dictionaries, When the reading and explaining will be over, approximately for 20 minutes, the groups will get one letter, and they can start translate it. When they finished their work, next step will be printing the letter. With that our task will be finished.

TECHNOLOGY: Projector, computer, printer.

EVALUATION: My evaluation will be based on their work; how do they translate the letter, is it correct or not and does it have meaning. In here I’ll include grammar, word order and also the usage of Microsoft Word.
